Kindergarteners squeezing every minute out of library

During a kindergarten class yesterday I read the Red Clover nominee, Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great (which had the kids cracking up).  Afterwards I helped kindergarteners find the books they wanted to bring home.  I'm always interested in what they want...because they usually know what they want and it is a great way to get to know their personal interests.  Very rarely do I hear a student say, "I don't know what to pick out." They love to learn.  They love to read.  We always say, "They're like sponges."  It's true.

There was a moment today after helping them find their books where I stopped and looked around and the following images show what I saw.  It was a perfect moment.

Look how these kindergarteners use their time in the library.

Sitting in the story chair reading (or showing) a book to an audience

Reading with a friend on the couch

Finding a quiet space to read alone

Looking for books on the library catalog with the library's Chromebooks

Listening to an audio book at the library's listening center
