Perfect moments

Sometimes you have to stop and capture a perfect moment like this.  Five third and fourth grade boys enjoying a story together.  Priceless.

The online book fair has a larger selection of books than what will be at the school fair. Books purchased at the online fair will ship for free to the school 24-48 hours after the online fair ends on October 6th.

Our goal is to raise money to boost our library’s nonfiction collection with updated materials.  Please help us reach this goal through reading.  Every book purchased at the school book fair and the online book fair increases our profit towards our goal.
This is a great opportunity to purchase books for your child while helping our school reach its goals.
For more information on the school book fair, online book fair, dates, and times, please visit the school library web page and click on the book fair image to go to the Scholastic Book Fair web page.

Student friendly search engines

I love Google.  Most people love Google.  Kids do too.  However, I discourage it's use with students at school because of the likelihood that students will get search results that contain inappropriate content, ads, and sites that do not contain reliable/accurate information.  In addition, most of the time students are faced with search results for sites where the reading level is too high.  I encourage students to use our school's library web page for resources that will yield search results with appropriate, reliable content at their reading level.  Here is the link for our library web page:

Here are a couple of search engines I encourage students to use over Google that are linked on our library web page.

Student selection of materials for loan from the library

Families have different values, goals, and desires for their children.  Some parents want their children to pick out whatever they want. Others want their children to pick out books they can read independently.  Others want books they can read to their child.  Some want more challenge while others want less.  I believe we can all agree our goals for our children are to become literate and to love to read.  To this goal, we can work together.  The statements below come from the UCS and UID library circulation guidelines and the rest of the document can be found at this link.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Baron at chris.baron@cesuvt.org with specific requests, goals, and questions about your child’s book selections.
  • School library media professionals resist defining what is appropriate for individual
students to read, view, or hear. Students are free to select items from the library for
check out. Our goal is for each student to pick out one “just right” book he or she can
read independently and one high interest book he or she may need support with.
  • If parents have specific reading goals for their child, they are encouraged to
make the goals clear to their child and may also wish to contact the library media
specialist to assist in accomplishing those goals through thoughtful and appropriate
book selection. The library will not prohibit a child from checking out a book unless
specifically requested by the child’s parents.
